Ebert Needs a Lawyer to Fight for His Kids and His Future

Without a single dollar for legal help, Ebert is fighting for what matters most, his kids. Courtrooms are not built for people to face alone, and without an attorney he is at a real disadvantage against a system that assumes everyone has one. Your donation gives him what he needs most, a voice in the room.

Who Ebert Is

Ebert José Rojas was born on May 4, 1994, in Caracas, Venezuela. Before leaving Venezuela, he worked as a cook, until the country's economic crisis pushed him to search for a better future elsewhere. In 2017, he set out on a bicycle journey of more than two thousand kilometers, an experience that still shapes how he thinks. "Many of our limits are created in our own minds," he says.

Ebert entered the United States on October 21, 2021, on a K-1 fiance visa, and later became a lawful permanent resident. In the years since, he built a family, bought a home, started a business, and built a career in the tree service industry, where he now works climbing and safely lowering heavy tree sections to the ground using rigging systems. It is work that calls for preparation, patience, and trust, qualities he brings to the rest of his life as well.

Ebert is the father of two children, Indigo, age five, and Sisu, age one. He calls being their father the greatest privilege of his life, and says he wants them to grow up knowing he loved them, protected them, and did everything he reasonably could to remain present.

He credits his parents, who cared for him and his siblings through real hardship, and the climber Tommy Caldwell, whose perseverance on the Dawn Wall reminds him that a goal can look impossible and still be worth pursuing. Honesty, responsibility, and perseverance are the values he tries to live by. "People should acknowledge their mistakes, take responsibility for their actions, and keep trying to become better."

Since May 14, 2026, Ebert has not been able to see or speak with either of his children. He is currently representing himself in family court and immigration matters, against a system that assumes he can afford professional help. The cost of proper legal representation is far beyond what he can afford on his own. "Some battles are simply too big to fight alone," he says. He is not asking for sympathy. He is asking for the chance to have qualified legal representation, so he can continue fighting to remain part of his children's lives.

Legal Challenges

The Fight He's In

Ebert looking serious during legal proceedings

Ebert is currently navigating a complex divorce. During this process, he has lost access to the shared funds that were previously available to both parties. This financial gap is the primary obstacle to his legal defense.

Without a lawyer, Ebert cannot afford to participate in the legal system. Court proceedings are not designed for individuals to navigate alone. Representation is essential to protect his rights and his children's future.

The stakes are high. His immigration status is tied directly into the same proceedings. A negative outcome in one area could spill over into the other, jeopardizing his ability to stay in the same country as his children entirely.

Time is not a luxury. Court deadlines do not pause for fundraising timelines. Every week without representation is a week where positions are locked in and decisions are made by those who have counsel.

Time is Running Out

Court doesn't pause for fundraising timelines. Every week that passes without an attorney is a week where filings get made, positions get locked in, and decisions get shaped by whoever actually has a lawyer in the room. The sooner Ebert has representation, the more of this is still his to fight for.

Where Your Money Goes

Legal Retainers

Every dollar donated goes toward securing a qualified attorney to represent Ebert. This initial retainer ensures he has a professional advocate from the very first day of court proceedings.

Filing Fees

Legal proceedings require specific court filings and documentation. Your contributions cover the necessary fees to ensure these critical documents are submitted on time and properly.

Ongoing Representation

Once counsel is retained, your donations will fund the full scope of legal representation throughout the duration of the case. This includes all court appearances and legal arguments.

Moments Worth Protecting

These photos are just a small window into who Ebert is as a father. The day trips, the outings, the ordinary weekends spent doing whatever his kids wanted to do that day. This is the relationship on the line. Without a lawyer, Ebert doesn't just risk losing paperwork battles. He risks losing time like this, the everyday adventures that make up a childhood. Your support helps make sure he gets to keep showing up for these moments.
